The New Leadership Skill: Product Thinking

AI is democratizing software creation at an unprecedented pace. Business experts can prototype solutions without developers. Tiny teams can achieve what once required dozens of people. Soon, the ability to build will no longer be a competitive advantage.

The ability to choose what to build will be.

As product management responsibilities spread across organizations, we’ll see more people making product decisions than ever before. Some will create breakthrough innovations. Many will create beautifully crafted solutions searching for a problem. This talk explores the emerging future of product development, where customer empathy, experimentation, prioritization, and product thinking become essential skills for leaders, developers, and domain experts. We’ll examine how organizations are evolving toward smaller, more autonomous teams and discuss what happens when product ownership becomes everyone’s responsibility.

When everyone can build, the real challenge is ensuring someone still understands the customer.

After this session, participants will:

  • Understand why product thinking is becoming a critical leadership capability in the age of AI.

  • Learn how customer empathy and experimentation help teams avoid building products nobody wants.

  • Identify practical ways to strengthen product-thinking skills across teams, not just within product management.

  • Explore how autonomous teams can balance speed, innovation, and customer value.
